The First Detailed Abundances for M giants in the inner Bulge from Infrared Spectroscopy
We report the first abundance analysis of 17 M giant stars in the inner Galactic bulge at (l, b) = (0,−1), based on R = 25, 000 infrared spectroscopy (1.5 − 1.8 μm) using NIRSPEC at the Keck telescope. Based on their luminosities and radial velocities, we identify these stars with a stellar population older than 1 Gyr. We find the iron abundance 〈[Fe/H]〉 = −0.22± 0.03, with a 1σ dispersion of 0...
متن کاملGalactic Bulge Microlensing Events with Clump Giants as Sources
We present preliminary results of the analysis of 5 years of MACHO data on the Galactic bulge microlensing events with clump giants as sources. In particular, we discuss: 1) the selection of 'giant' events, 2) distribution of impact parameters, 3) distribution of event durations, 4) the concentration of long duration events in MACHO field 104 centered on (l, b) = (3. • 1, −3. • 0). We report th...
متن کاملRadii and Effective Temperatures for K and M Giants and Supergiants. Ii
We present new interferometric observations for 74 luminous red stars, made in the near-infrared. We show that our 2.2 km uniform-disk diameters agree with other near-infrared diameter determinations (lunar occultations and interferometers) for 22 stars measured in common with ours. From our new data, we derive e†ective temperatures that are compared with our previous work and with comparable o...
متن کاملRadii and Effective Temperatures for G, K, and M Giants and Supergiants
Interferometrically determined angular diameters obtained at the Palomar Testbed Interferometer (PTI) for 69 giant and supergiant stars are presented. Spectral types of the 59 giant stars generally lie between G6 and M6, although a B7 giant is included ; the nine bright giants and supergiants have spectral types between F5 and M5. Comparison of the results to those from the IR Optical Telescope...
متن کاملA homogeneous temperature calibration for K and M giants with an extension to the coolest stars
In this paper we present a new estimate of the effective temperatures of 32 giant stars in the spectral range K0 to M10. The sample includes also 4 Mira stars. The temperatures are based on a homogeneous set of angular diameters obtained by our group by the technique of lunar occultations, and using a photometric and spectroscopic coverage with a combination of original measurements and literat...
